July by: Long Shot

Curiouser & Curiouser · Learn Something New Every Day: July
The seventh month of the Gregorian calendar year is named in honor of Julius Caesar, who was elected Pontifex Maximus in 63 B.C.; during what was then a 355 day year. A year after Caesar completed his calendar he was assassinated on the Ides of March; they renamed the seventh month July in his honor. In an earlier calendar the fifth month (of ten) was originally named Quintilis after Marcus Aurelius Claudius Quintillus, a Roman Emperor who died in 270 B.C.
“When the Romans added new months, Quintilis and other months were adjusted. The new solar year would consist of 365 days, adding 10 to the total.” Eventually Pope Gregory would reform the calendar further in 1582, though a few countries utilized the Julian calendar well into the twentieth century. (e.g. Russia, China, & the Eastern Orthodox Church)

During July we in the Northern Hemisphere are well into the dog days of summer, which continue into August. It’s hot, people. Damned hot. This month celebrates ice cream… a lot. There are seven ice-cream related holidays during the month of July. “July’s full moon is called the Buck Moon…during the month of July, a male deer’s antlers grow the fastest & reach its annual growth potential” (nationaldaycalendar.com)

In the Southern Hemisphere, it is the second month of winter. July is the coldest month on average in the Southern Hemisphere causing ‘Christmas in July’ to be celebrated in Australia.

Astrological Information • Flowers • Birthstone

If you’re born in July, you’re either a Cancer or Leo; a crab or a lion; water or fire.
——-

Cancer (June 21 – July 22): The fourth sign of the zodiac is a water sign ruled by the Moon. The symbol of cancer is the crab. Being ruled by the Moon, these people are often highly creative & intuitive. A good word to describe them would be sensitive, but at times they can be oversensitive & insecure. Their empathy & good sense of humour win them many admirers but their moodiness can also be confusing.

Leo (July 23 to august 22): the fifth sign of the zodiac is a fire sign ruled by the Sun. The symbol of Leo is the lion. Like the Sun, these people are magnetic & bright, attracting the attention of everything they influence; charismatic would be a good word to describe them. Their lives are typically full of activity & they are often courageous, natural leaders but they are also prone to arrogance & attention seeking.

July birth flowers are larkspur & waterlily. The larkspur is symbolic of a beautiful spirit, swiftness & general positivity & strong bonds of love. (It blooms in indigo, which is my favourite colour, & difficult to find).  It doesn’t bloom until fall & like the rose, the larkspur’s colours have special meaning:

  • Pink = fickleness
  • White = happiness
  • Purple = first loved
  • Blue (Indigo) = grace

Per floraly.com.au – “water lilies are often associated with birth & resurrection because of their striking ability to emerge from the water. Because of their white petals, you’ll also find them symbolising purity & majesty. But the most interesting thing the water lily symbolises is enlightenment.” Much like the Larkspur, the water lily’s colour is symbolic:

  • White = purity & mental purity
  • Purple = power
  • Red = pure love & romance
  • Blue = the power of knowledge

July Birthstone: Ruby – a valuable gemstone found predominantly in Myanmar & Vietnam. Rubies vary in shades from blood red to pinkish-red & signify wealth & prosperity.

Woden’s day… the Squirrels have returned. • SCOTUS ulcers • General Update//

*Warning* Depression is discussed in this post – if you don’t want to read about that today, I get it. I hope to see you again soon.

———————————————————————————————

Hello my friends. I have not been able to focus on writing much lately; haven’t really been able to focus on anything at all. An overview of this update: I am working on creating an environment that is more conducive to productivity, however, I have had physical impediments to that plan. Having the kids every other weekend has offered my muscles nothing but pain. We also have squirrels that have invaded & are setting up their little town inside the walls behind my bed. In keeping up with the news, political & otherwise, my mental health has been less than great… today is a SCOTUS decision day, something which gives me a stress headache, muscle tightness, & (probably) an ulcer. (Though I have been eating much better – HelloFresh™ makes me a super chef!)

Dawn Of Desolation by: Cindy Vondran

I’ll begin by saying that Major Depressive Disorder isn’t anything to underestimate. Often in the good times of my life I have forgotten how difficult the dark times were; a protective action by my brain, I’m sure. I do not want to dwell in the darkness, but I need to explain where I am & where I am coming from – especially concerning depression, because I am very good at looking like everything is fine.

The truth is that I feel like a weighted blanket is over me all the time; as if I am walking in jello. I have to push through it to do anything & everything. In speaking with my doctor, we discussed increasing a medication & the possible side effects, which were shite (weight gain, sleepiness, etc.). Then we discussed genetic testing to see if I’m taking the right medication at all.

WHY DO WE NOT ALREADY TAKE A GENETIC TEST IN ORDER TO KNOW WHAT MEDICATIONS WE SHOULD & SHOULD NOT TAKE?

That seems like the obvious first step in the medication journey, instead of forcing patients to try each medication in their own personal drug trial. Why are we forced to be lab rats?
Of course, these are rhetorical questions as I understand the foundations of a capitalist society & the root of the issue, profit.
That being said, I was swabbed for the test & am awaiting results.

Tragedy, 1897

We have had my Boyo & Girly a couple times now, keeping to the ‘every other weekend’ schedule. My body is certainly screaming at me, particularly my shoulders; stretching isn’t helping, I desperately need physical therapy. Surprisingly, I have been able to take care of both kids, by myself, without much issue. Roegn isn’t much interested in spending time with them for different reasons; one of which is that the weekend are her days off & she wants to spend time with her friends (especially before she leaves for Oklahoma).

They’ll be back this weekend.

•My Boyo & Girly•

This morning I woke up to the wonderful sounds of construction inside the wall directly behind the headboard of my bed. Who is the cause of this raucous, roaring, ruckus?

Squirrels.

We have been invaded by neighborhood squirrels. 🐿️ They’re cute when I see them in the neighborhood & I certainly do not want to run them over with Zeus… but I don’t want them inside my walls. I’m currently looking for help with ‘critter – control’ but am coming up short with no one in our area. It’s quite frustrating.

Squirrel’s Night Out by: Will Bullas

Of course, I have been keeping up with the news, political & otherwise, every day. This has definitely deleteriously contributed to my mental health – but I think not paying attention would hurt my soul more than simply limiting my news intake.

There were a couple SCOTUS decisions today & another leaked decision concerning abortion. Below is the Strict Scrutiny podcast breaking down the decisions released today & the leaked decision.

With all that said, I will bid you a good evening. Looking forward to the Presidential Debate tomorrow night! I’ll be posting several Bingo Cards in case you’d like to play along with me.

Talk Soon,
Cecelia✌🏻🌊💙

Quick Catsup// Busy times, fun times, sad times.

{pain} dear God, I hurt so very much. I understand how it happened (two toddlers) but I would very much appreciate your loving kindness & a bit of pain relief. Amen.
{sleep} unsure. My watch died. But after two days with a total of 10 hours sleep? It was definitely at least ten hours in one night.

Ma Petit Fleur & Mon Petit Homme

We picked up the kids on Saturday, which I was ecstatic, & Roe was less than excited, about. I have missed my boyo & girly like crazy!! They’re both getting so big, as they do. Their lives have been quite chaotic as of late, living in different places while their mom gets her sh*te together. However, chaos is not the best for littles & as a result they ask a specific question, about everything, “Is this mine?” Right now they have very little stability & are searching for what belongs to them & for anything that doesn’t change. I told Annie she desperately needs to get them back to some semblance of a schedule, hopefully we can help by taking the kids every other weekend.
