Fursday 30.November.23 • “That’s a big stone”… & more from my consultation with the Urologist.

{pain} 5 with waves of 7 every now and again. {sleep} 6h 22m of decent sleep. (I kept my door closed so Lady Diana 🐈‍⬛ could not wake me at 3a & 5a). Speaking of, a Thriend posted that Cats seemed to have taken over Saturday, so his doggo will get Fursday! (Move over Thor, you have competition). Today is Mason Jar Day, Personal Space Day, & Stay Home Because You’re Well Day, among others. You can listen to the National Day Calendar for today here.

Starry Night Over Springfield, Illinois by: David Hinds

👉🏻We went to Springfield on Tuesday to attend my consultation with the Urologist. [Quick catchup: On 9.Nov I had a procedure in the local hospital after spending a horrific, tortuous night fighting a (10 x 11 x 20)mm kidney stone that remains lodged inside me. No one wanted to prescribe pain medication, however my personal physician was kind enough to help with that.] Springfield is two hours from our house, a 2.5 hour drive with the stops I must make for my back & bladder, & perhaps a 3 hour drive with construction (6-hour+/- round trip).

💁🏻‍♀️We left the house about 11:30a, arrived in Springfield an hour ahead of my appointment time, which was 3p. I’ve never been to Springfield on purpose, so I wanted to have plenty of time to get my bearings. Roegn and I had time to get coffee & a great parking space, which with Zeus (Dodge 2500) is a priority. There was not much walking involved, though Roe did not bring a heavy coat as instructed… “I prefer looking cute.” 🙄 My daughter, who wears a hoodie in 90° & a light military jacket in 30°.

👩🏻‍⚕️ The nurses were relatively polite, with one of the assistants beginning with, “that’s a big stone. Not the biggest we’ve seen, but big.” Then she did that thing where she tried to tell me that I should not be feeling the pain I was feeling, or more to the point that the kidney stone & stint were not responsible for the pain down my right leg.

🤔 Let me get this straight: The pain that begins in my lower right abdomen, reaches around my hip to the back side & lower back area, and then radiates down my leg, which was not there prior to the stone becoming lodged & the procedure to insert a foreign object into my body, does not have anything to do with said stone or foreign object?

🙋🏻‍♀️ Forgive me if I just straight up call bullsh*t. I know my body better than anyone on this earth & I know when I feel pain, where it is located, and over the past fifteen years I have become expert at explaining it. I continue to feel the pain in my hip, lower back, and down my leg – even though they said the medicine they gave me (THREE new scripts) would take care of that.

⚠️Oh, they gave me THREE new prescriptions because I will not have surgery until January 25th‼️

JANUARY F^CKING TWENTY FIFTH

-Me, just now.
You want me to wait how long???

🤷🏻‍♀️ Apparently, because I have the stint & the THREE new medications (that have been prescribed for THREE MONTHS) I am supposed to just deal with the pain (that remains) & not be able to function in my everyday life. ((I am so angry about this I couldn’t write about it for two days, yet I am banging on the keys right now… “angry typing” as Roe would say. She always knows when I’m really in a groove about an issue; she says she can hear the change in the way I punch the keys… but I digress)).

~They did say they have a cancellation list (in direct opposition to what they said over the phone). If I had another option, I would take it, I think.~

🥺 I do not know what to do. Physically I cannot accomplish everything that needs doing… financially we are in deep doo, and bc of the physical limitations I cannot do a dang thing about it. Okay, I’m crying now, I need to go.

I hope your Fursday, Thor’s Day, is going well… it’s halfway over.

Tuesday, November 28th, 2023 -TDP #PetPeeves

Name your top three pet peeves.

Questioner

1. Grammar. I’m your average grammar-nazi. (Pretty much the only time I will use that word outside of history). It gets on every single nerve I have when people do not speak &/or write well, specifically if it is intentional (“y’all” & “ain’t”).

New Yorker, April 10, 2017 by: Joe Dator

2. Turn signals & 4-way stops; perhaps the two simplest parts of driving in this country. I despise people who cannot be bothered to move their hand/finger to signal their intention with enough time for people behind them to prepare. & why, WHY are 4-way stops so freaking difficult??? Whomever comes to a complete stop first, wins… if it’s a tie, it goes to the right. Why is that so difficult to understand??

3. Willful ignorance. Let me be clear • ignorance is NOT bliss, in the end.

I have the consultation with the Urologist tomorrow in Springfield; I don’t think I’ve ever intentionally been in Springfield, Illinois. [~Only city name that every state has in common, Springfield.] 🐄moooving on~ The urologist that did the first procedure two weeks ago said this was an emergent case, so I should be in surgery within two weeks.

Let me just say that if they decide to keep me waiting much longer, I may get into some trouble. This pain is getting worse daily. (Prayers & positive thoughts much appreciated!) Let’s hope I have a good update for you all tomorrow.

4. All of the people at my pharmacy. I have remained faithful to my pharmacy (following their cutback on hours to 10a – 6p M-F 😡) only because of the lovely people working there. Soon, not even they will be able to make up for the ineptitude of Walgreens.

5. Lady Diana Minkah Michelle “Kitty” Capone • What, you don’t consider your cat’s people?

…huh, how ‘bout that.

Finally, I’ve been reading Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman consistently for the last few months, again & again. I love that book.
On that note, I’ll say that I know I left out many people … that’s just me being lazy, or them falling into the Below.

Saturday, November 25th, 2025 -TDP #BeachOrMountains

Beach or mountains? Which do you prefer? Why?

Questioner

Can I say, “California or Hawaii,” and get away with both?

🌵 I grew up in Phoenix, Arizona, which has the bum of the Rocky Mountains on the horizon. You have to cross through mountains to get there from the east (& the painted desert) • one of the most beautiful drives in our country. We were an hour & a half from the Grand Canyon, a place I hope you have seen & if not, you need it on your bucket list. We were also a day drive to the ocean, down in Baja. In California there are areas where you can go 1.5 hours in any direction & be in a different environment, to include beach & mountains.

🏖️ I currently live in the MidWest. The last time I lived in Phoenix was over 20 years ago after I moved there from Oklahoma for a bit in my early 20s. I could not have fathomed how much I missed the mountains. Now if I have the opportunity to go to either the beach or the mountains, I try to take it. However, we have Lake Michigan, here in Chicago & so we do have a beach… but I digress.

Rough Seas at Shichiri Beach by: Hiroshige c. 1851-2

👉🏻 I also enjoy the ocean, though more from a distance. I’m not a huge fan of heat, & many beaches are just too hot for my liking. Also, the sand gets everywhere, just EVERYWHERE. I respect the ocean, love the sound of it, enjoy being in the ocean every once in a while – but I have now talked myself into a different answer – Mountains.

Thanks for accompanying me on that little journey through my mind! Hope you’re having an excellent day today!

What are your family’s top 3 favorite meals?

Questioner

1. Asian – Usually combo fried rice, noodles, different chicken dishes, pork dishes, green beans, & egg drop soup.

This was taken in ChangSha, China, in the Hunan Province – My Asian cuisine is NEVER as good as what I had whilst there, but my cooking knowledge increased. (Obviously)

2. Comfort – White rice, beef tips in gravy, green beans, cauliflower & broccoli, salad & toast. (My mom would make this a lot, so it became a nostalgic favourite of Roe’s).

This was generated by an AI Image creator & is NOT what my Ma’s Beef Tips & Gravy looks like… but it’s cool.

3. Mmmm – Steak, Mama mashed potatoes, Meemaw Mac & Cheese, grilled corn on the cob, grilled broccoli & cauliflower skewers, salad, & Red Lobster biscuits (or your favourite bread is fine).

This is close to mine, but missing a few things – best I could do.

👉🏻Those are the top three that come to mind in our house. Which are your family favourite meals?

🍏 This is the absolute best time of year for apples, which happens to be my safe word, but I digress. Granny Smith apples are never as crisp & juicy as when freshly picked around this time of year.

🎃 I realize that most people just loôove pumpkin & pumpkin spice… I am not one of those people. I always enjoyed the pumpkin patch we went to each fall {& we have lovely memories with Becca & Jaime}, but actually eating pumpkin or drinking pumpkin spiced drinks, that’s not for me.

🏈 Personally, I have always loved this holiday simply because of football.

🥗 When you eat out over the holiday weekend, whether it’s a restaurant or a Subway, please be kind to the person waiting on you. They are dealing with a deluge of people all weekend long on top of whatever family issues they had to deal with on Thanksgiving.

Wednesday, November 22nd, 2023 -TDP #Instincts

Do you trust your instincts?

Questioner

Most definitely.

My instincts could be the reason I became a counselor; I know people well and am a very good judge of character. As long as I am healthy & within my right mind, (my recent time in the hospital high on Dilaudid does not count, for instance), I definitely trust my instincts.

Hello, wed nez day; you deep breath before the –> 🦃 .

{pain} IFH. I was stupid & had the kids (Mon Petit Homme, 2 years old on Dec. 27th & Ma Petit Fleur, 3 years old on Dec. 3rd) over the weekend. I will break down why that was incredibly stupid on my part in a bit.
{sleep} 2h 51m – pain is NOT my friend.

If you’re just joining us here in the kafé, there are two toddlers in our lives, children of a friend from my daughter’s school. Annie is a few years older than Roe & was in a domestic violence situation with the kids, which is the main reason I refer to them as Mon Petit Homme (My Little Man) MPH, & Ma Petit Fleur (My Little Flower) MPF. I love them both dearly, but have a special connection with my Boyo, as his sister (Girly) was in a foster home in Arizona for the second year of her life & the first year of his. We have been helping take care of him since he was 3 months old; but our Girly was returned around the holidays last year, I think, I can’t remember – anyhow, she was nearly two years old before she was home.

👩‍👧‍👦They’re a handful, as any near 2 & 3 year old kids would be; add into that mix that Annie has been described by Roe as a “basket full of red flags” – which I concur. We love Annie, when she is on her meds & in counseling; when she is not, she does things that make it difficult to like her… but we always love & support the kids. Everyone we know who were friends with her have extricated themselves from her life as quickly as possible. Annie did know, and go to school with, Jaime – my daughter’s friend who died two years ago last weekend. However, both Becca & Jaime (twins) had ended their attachment to Annie well before Jaime’s accident because Annie is a pathological liar, a drama queen, and a perpetual victim. It is a lot to be in her orbit… and make no mistake, it is a relationship in which she is the center of everything.
👉🏻I mention all of that because she attempted to make the weekend about her, again, and how she needed a break & how difficult it was without Jaime… etc. It was one thing too many that weekend, as she didn’t send enough diapers, and attempted to make the Monday drop off incredibly complicated for us. It is obvious she is not in therapy. Roe said the only way she knew she was on her meds was that she didn’t hang up on her when Roe said something Annie didn’t like.💁🏻‍♀️

Jaime Lourdeau Rankin July 8, 2005 – November 19, 2021

Speaking of, I decided it was a great idea to have the kids on my birthday weekend – Friday to Monday; more important, it was the two year anniversary of Jaime’s death. I thought it would be a good distraction for both of us, but Roe was in such a dark place… it made the entire weekend tenuous.
but I missed my Boyo & Girly so much!

👉🏻Therefore, I am currently experiencing much physical pain from picking up the Boyo, even though I knew I was not supposed to not only because of my neck & back, but now the gargantuan kidney stone chillin’ inside my lower right gut & hip area. My entire body hurts, but especially the lower back & right area, hip, & often down my leg. Tramadol & rest is my friend.
At that, I’ll say goodnight. I hope that you’re ready for the feasting tomorrow… and of course, prepare yourself for your trumplican family members. I’ve always appreciated the beginning of this prayer, which I’ll be praying for you:

Go forth into the world in peace.
Be of good courage.
Hold fast that which is good.
Render to no one evil for evil.
Strengthen the fainthearted.
Support the weak.
Help the afflicted.
Show love to everyone.

Book of Common Prayer, 1892, 1928, modified

As I know many of you are not religious, I left out the rest, but if you’re Catholic – you know. 😆

Rainbow Months by: Mindy Howard

What’s your favorite month of the year? Why?

Questioner

☝️Good one, dear Questioner, and this may change in the near future, I think. My favourite ‘month’ of the year for a very long time has been 20Dec-20Jan, which is the month of the year we spend in Oklahoma with family. We travel anywhere from the 17th to the 20th, visit friends along the way through Missouri & Oklahoma, and make it to the Slidin’ ‘S’ Ranch right before the holiday rush. We have Christmas & New Year’s Eve traditions that have only been missed once. My late Meemaw’s birthday is January 1st, we usually accompany my Aunt to the cemetery to drink a Schlitz M.L.B., which was my Meemaw’s yearly celebration & the only time she would drink alcohol. My daughter Roegn’s birthday is the 18th of January, we celebrate her birthday at the ranch with a small party of family & friends, though we went home early in 2021 due to tension created by national events.

😔 However, this year looks to be different for similar reasons to 2021.

👉🏻We can trace many unfortunate events back to the 20th of January 2017 – when we allowed TFG to take office and proceed to change our country for the worse. All of which led to 6.January.21 when we were at my Aunt & Unca’s ranch in Oklahoma, per usual, but because they are tRump supporters, tension ushered our early exit that year. Last year was the worst time we have ever spent there, & it was extended by two weeks due to a death in the family. The tension was tangible, there were other personal issues involved, and it was by far the worst experience we’ve had in memory. The state of our country, the inevitable Fox News twaddle I will be forced to listen to, and the stress caused by keeping my mouth shut are but some of the reasons I won’t be going this year.

🎄 Christmas isn’t Christmas elsewhere, as being with my Aunt Vicki & Unca Fred, Zolan, Lindsay, Gary, Joshua, Derly, Santiago, & Naomy, (among others), has become what it means to celebrate Christmas. In order to continue to be welcomed there, I know I should not go this year – because I cannot & will not keep my mouth shut about the fascist GOP & how they have ruined our country. Last year I spent most of the six weeks in my damned room because my Aunt had laid down the law, anyone who brought up politics would be booted… so I didn’t say anything, in my room. This year, the room will not stop me.

Year At A Glance—a Pie Chart Of The Months by: Roz Chast New Yorker, 6.January.14

I think last year happened so the Lord could show me I could survive without Oklahoma. I will always love my family & hope to visit again in future, but I can do without Oklahoma. That state has changed so much since we lived there, I don’t recognize it anymore. Friends that I thought I knew have become far right bigots & haters that only want to tear people down instead of building them up. But I digress… this is about a month.

September Morn by: Paul Emile Chabas

If I’m honest with myself, I think September was always my favourite month mostly because I am a nerd. In elementary school I lived in Phoenix, Arizona, and school started September 4th, a day I loved. I truly enjoyed going shopping for school clothes (we were upper middle class, so it was incredibly fun,) and do not get me started on school supplies, I could empty out a Staples! I loved everything about getting ready for school – because it meant the end of the H O T summer & the beginning of the monsoon season, and FOOTBALL. (Later on once I moved to the midwest, it would also mean ‘sweater weather’.)

Happy Things by: Linda Woods

As an adult, being with family usurped my love of September, especially once I was finished with school. There is July 4th when my Ma’s side of the family have a Family Reunion every two years, and that would be tied with 20 Dec – 20 Jan, except it is F^cking Hot!! This year I will not be attending either event, which will make things quite different. You’ll read all about it, I am certain.

Friday, November 17th, 2023 – TDP • #WhereWouldYouLive

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?

Questioner

👉🏻This is becoming more difficult to answer with the exponential destruction due to climate change, however, my first answer will probably always be Scotland. I’ve had severe fernweh for Scotland my entire life.

Edinburgh Castle Scotland by: John D Benson

I should probably say the United Kingdom, as I also want to live in Wales & Ireland… and England.

Great Britain UK City text Map by: Michael Tompsett

❇️I have never felt such strong “homesickness for places [I’ve] never been” – save for Narnia; I certainly had severe fernweh for Narnia. I’m a nomad; I’ve moved around my entire life. I tried to limit moving when my daughter was growing up, but now that she’s nearing 19 – we will be able to go wherever we want. I have never felt like I was ‘home’ save for my Meemaw & Pappaw’s home, not the city, just the home. {Oh! & New York City. I felt instantly at home in NYC.} That house is no longer in the family, so I feel somewhat rudderless.

👉🏻I am hoping that we can find somewhere that becomes home • so I no longer have this feeling that is “stronger than wanderlust”.

It’s My Birthday by: Susan Herber

🎙️ deep announcer voice over🎙️

On this day in the year nineteen hundred and eighty, the world was brought to its proverbial knees by the entrance of Cecelia Jae Vanlandingham to the world. Created by a Cancer dad and an awesome Capricorn ma – from quite early on raised by a single ma, who was (and is) strong, courageous, & hard working – resulting in a crazy, but cute, but crazy mix of passion & self control. Some of the rough guidelines sketched out by the stars…

Shared Determination: Both Capricorn parents and Scorpio children are known for their strong determination and resilience. This shared trait can create a foundation of mutual understanding and support. [Unless one or more has unresolved trauma, but I digress…]
Balanced Ambition: Capricorns and Scorpios are ambitious, but their approaches differ. The Capricorn parent’s practical ambition can complement the Scorpio child’s intense drive, resulting in a well-balanced environment that values both practicality and passion.
Emotional Depth: Scorpio children bring emotional depth to the relationship, while Capricorn parents may be more reserved. This dynamic can encourage the Capricorn parent to navigate and appreciate emotions more openly, fostering a deeper connection. [Beware: This may take 40+ years]
Structured Environment: Capricorn’s love for structure aligns well with Scorpio’s need for stability. The Capricorn parent can provide a structured and disciplined environment, offering the Scorpio child a sense of security and guidance. [Continues to this day…]
Shared Values: Both Capricorns and Scorpios value loyalty, commitment, and long-term goals. This alignment of values can strengthen the parent-child bond, creating a family dynamic based on mutual respect and a common understanding of priorities. [Or it can cause friction when the Scorpio child does something spontaneous & stupid]

15.November.23 – Apologies & an Update

👉🏻I need to catch up on everything… I am so behind. I will begin with an apology: Due to the 2 cm (10mm x 11mm x 20mm) chunk of minerals inside my freakin’ kidney, my brain has been preoccupied with pain or fuzzy due to pain meds. As of right now, I have a consultation with the urologist in Springfield (which is 2.5 hours from my home) on November 28th. Meanwhile, they expect my normal pain meds, which are plentiful, to cover this new pain – most of the time they do not. I was given 12 pills, with the direction to take them every 6 hours as needed for pain…

…that math does not math.

🍃 💨 Surprising exactly no one, I have been smoking hella cannabis. (Which can get pricey here in Illinois) and utilizing gummies & tincture.

16.November.23
Another day has passed. My mother was here, which was a gift from the Lord; now she is gone. It looks like I will be in bed mostly over the next two weeks. Every time I attempt to do anything my right hip begins to throb, eventually lightning goes down my leg, and the pain in my lower right belly area?

🎙️Nostalgic Voice Over🎙️ I liken it to that time I had Pelvic Inflammatory Disease… when it felt like Freddy Krueger was reaching inside my gut, grabbing all the muscles & intestine therein, squeezing then turning widdershins. *sigh*

Good times, that.

The Truth of Pain Seven by: Karen Musick

The doctor that initially prescribed 12 Tramadol, which I picked up on 8.Nov? (Or the 9th, my days have run together), that doctor will not prescribe any more because I already take pain meds. He’s right, I do, and if I just sit/lay around and do absolutely nothing, they seem to help with the pain. If I get up, fold laundry, attempt to clean up, etc., the pain becomes intolerable.

Intolerable. Pain. Me…? I’m great at pain, a pro at handling pain, but damn it if this particular pain doesn’t have me on my knees.
